Imponenti meraviglie idrauliche, giochi di luce tra raffinati mosaici e un colpo d’occhio eccezionale, la valle del Canopo, facevano da quinta scenografica ai banchetti più “in” di Villa Adriana. L’imperatore dominava la scena, con la sua corte, dall’esedra centrale, mentre i suoi fedelissimi giacevano sul grande baldacchino a forma di S greca chiamato “stibadion”.

It was sculpted by the Tuscan artist between 1513 and 1516, and it represents the central element of this amazing mausoleum that started to host the remains of the pontiff almost a century after his death, which took place February 21st, 1513.
